anne maree barry says hi

I started this blog in 2007. No one had heard of The Wire and I was making experimental films that a select few saw. My initial tagline for this blog was: 'I write concisely. always. I'm trying to improve this - however, sometimes few words work better'. Then I found Twitter. However, I still post here once a week, so feel free to comment or just to simply say hii.

NEW PROSTATE CANCER DRUG NOT AS GOOD AS 'THE WIRE'
Tagging in Lisboa - not as good as 'The Wire' (Image © A.M. Barry)

I found this article on the Daily Mash - The Daily Mash. It sums up the bombardment of articles (especially from the Guardian and Observer, although the Saturday Irish Times magazine had an insightful interview with Aidan Gillen) championing The Wire in recent weeks.

DJ Maxximus
I am going on annual leave tomorrow. Portugal is the destination - after spending a considerable amount of time there in 2004 and a visit to Cascais and Lisboa in 2006, I am now going further south to the Algarve to a little fishing village - for some sun-baking, eating fresh fish and lots of fruit. After nearly ten days of this routine, I am getting a train up to Lisboa and going to Lux to see DJ Maxximus as a birthday treat. DJ Maxximus is a producer of grime, bass and dub-step who is djing all over Europe this summer. He is bubbling - get ready.

Darklight Festivities
& Paddy Considine
A great festival this year - high lights include Crispin Glover' s (AKA Crispy Lover, as we fondly called him) slide show performance, Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg (currently showing at the I.F.I.) and Paddy Considine's Screen Training Ireland masterclass. Paddy was in conversation with Michael McElhatton, well known here for his portrayal of Rats in Paths to Freedom. This Q+A should soon be available on Paddy's website which is run by the lovely Gareth Roberts - it also includes a forum where his films are discussed and Paddy is even on there himself...Have a look here:Paddy Considine
