Major Lazer - VenueSuch a great day. Red Bull know how to put on a free event, or at least know how to pay people who know how to put on a free event. Diplo, Switch and a host of other DJs and MCs played at a skate park beside train tracks on the corner of Portobello and Acklam road. The first tune Switch played was Creator and when the vocal dropped, out came Santi White - the place went crazy. The tunes were too much for the speakers and towards the end the system seemed to blow. Silence for about 15 minuites until the hoot of a passing train was joined by a trademark Diplo airhorn and it all began again. The party ended and everyone headed off into the visual and aural excitment of carnival itself, passing different sound systems every few minutes and losing your friends in the crowds, just because you needed to dance there and then. Thunderheist, Jerk it. (director Go That) Santogold, Lights Out. (director Rob 'Whitey' McConnaughy) Thanks to [dave] at suck my art for bringing That Go's winning entry/portrayal of Thunderheist's Jerk It to my attention. Chicken aside and the soundtrack, it has the some similar shots and energy that I envisage my documentary short with the Rialto Twirlers as having. Thunderheist have a nice blog roll going on in their site which I kind of like: Thunderheist A similar fashion animal pattern theme is running through Jerk It and Santogold's Lights Out. I am sure this is all just purely coincidental. Animal print is just so punk rock i guess.
